We take our heads out of the screen and occasionally set foot on the field in February. Underwater, we mainly cross paths with Maui, who has frequented the area for many years but approaches divers only very occasionally. An opportunity for us to take a portrait of this old warrior with a dominant temperament, who does not deviate from his course when he meets our group and commands respect.
A dozen dolphins have been observed over the past two weeks in the area, always the same resident and semi-resident individuals. Two of the pregnant females have not yet shown their snouts, while we have spotted a third one, who no longer seems to be expecting a calf nor to be accompanied by a newborn: could she have lost another baby? This would be her third pregnancy ending in the loss of the calf. We continue our investigations to better understand the reproductive history of each dolphin in the community, their behaviors, and the bonds they maintain with each other.
